(Thursday December 9, HealthDay News) - good marks in high school could help not only of the spirit, they could help the body, too.
A new study finds that high school students who get good grades are also likely to be in better health than adults.
Researchers analyzed data from the longitudinal study of Wisconsin, which includes more than 10,000 graduates of high schools in Wisconsin, 1957, interviewed several times in recent years 53 on their work, life, family and health class.
The team found that secondary more participants points, already the probability that they have experienced health aggravation between 1992 and 2003, when they are approaching retirement age.
The study published in the December issue of the journal of health and social behavior.
Scientists had originally thought the finding may be partially explained by "conscientiousness" - otherwise said, a conscientious student may simply be more conscientious about its health - but data did not support this conclusion.
"How well you do in school." We already know that it is important for your work and your earnings, but it also proves to your health questions, "study author Pamela Herd, Associate Professor of public affairs and sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, said in a press release American Sociological Association."
Results may have an impact on public policies, she added. Because the study focused on the categories of participants, "that tells us something about the consequences of emphasizing academic achievement outcomes, for example and still reflects the importance of education," said herd.
